Abstract

This chapter examines the German real estate market focussing on two main topics, the public market and the M&A market. Initially an overview and the specific characteristics of the public real estate market are described, including requirements from an investor’s point of view regarding listed real estate companies. Furthermore, the process and prerequisites of becoming a listed company in Germany are specified. The second part focuses on the real estate M&A market in Germany. Following an overview of the market development over the last years, the current environment and investors are described. The chapter concludes with an outline of a typical M&A process including relevant issues for real estate companies.
