Abstract

The dramatic growth of traffic in telecommunications networks entails a need for transmission speed and capacity at all network levels which is growing at an equally rapid pace. Telecommunications companies must find a way to accomplish the required network expansion, despite the immense financial resources it will devour, in the face of modest prospects for earnings. The challenge appears to be as daunting as the squaring of the circle. Stefan Rinkel-Holgersson, Vice President Network Strategy, is responsible for the network strategy at Telekom Deutschland GmbH. In the following interview, he answers questions about the approach taken by a large European incumbent to these challenges.
