Abstract

In this chapter we capture our key observations about as is or recent past of planning processes. We describe strategic planning, tactical S&OP, operational planning with horizons, frequency, granularity, units, and typical use cases. We expose similarities in those planning types through reference to tactical S&OP process steps, e.g., product, demand and supply review, integrated reconciliation, and management business review. Once we understand what is similar, we can better design how to connect planning types into one single and coherent planning framework. We highlight characteristics which make planning processes hard to integrate.
