Abstract

This paper provides a concise view on the state of the German Energiewende (energy transition), converting energy generation from fossil fuels to renewable generation. It discusses various aspects of the regulatory framework, including the phasing out of coal-fired power plants, emission trading, the new tender process for investments in subsidized renewable power generation, and other aspects. It also discusses employment effects and other impacts on German society at large.
