Abstract

The concepts of open innovation and innovation in networks are complementing benchmarking. Open innovation emphasizes the active seeking and integration of external ideas, technologies, and expertise. By embracing open innovation, organizations tap into a vast ecosystem of partners, including suppliers, customers, research institutions, and start-ups. Additionally, innovation networks play a pivotal role in connecting organizations with a diverse array of stakeholders, facilitating collaboration, and knowledge sharing. These networks serve as catalysts for cross-pollination of ideas and the exploration of new opportunities. In this chapter, amongst others, we give a holistic classification of approaches innovative companies are undertaking, of open innovation, as well as of innovation networks and their management.
