Problems of Adjustment to Imports from Less-Developed Countries

Abstract

The group of less-developed countries (LDCs) has set as its target an increase of its share in world manufacturing production from around 7 to 8 per cent now to 25 per cent in the year 2000. Although the figure is probably too high to be realistic, it can be taken as a symbol of the LDCs’ efforts to improve their position in world production and international trade. Advanced countries are called upon to support these efforts by freeing imports from LDCs.
