Abstract

Richard Pryke’s paper is a valuable contribution to the consideration of the lessons of US airline deregulation for Europe. He offers us two major conclusions in this paper: ‘However, it seems likely that the net benefits from liberalisation in Europe will be smaller than the gains from deregulation in the United States’ and ‘If liberalisation is not to turn out a monopolistic damp squib, it is vital that governments and the EC should do everything possible to foster competition and make airline routes as contestable as possible.’
