Abstract

This chapter treats another important labour market feature relevant to young women: wages and working conditions. Wage rankings are looked at by industry, followed by a discussion of the gender pay gap. The focus then shifts to job quality, particularly to working hours, workplace sexual harassment and violence, and combining work and family life. Especially for employed young women, compliance with labour legislation and collective bargaining outcomes are essential, but at the same time in nearly all countries they constitute an Achilles’ heel: a problem addressed at the chapter’s end.
