Abstract

The purpose of this book was to explore the psychological and social complexities of organizations from an object relational, psychoanalytic perspective. The construction of organization theory was derived from action research, fieldwork, consultation, and what we learned from observing and interpreting thematic patterns and common characteristics of actual organizations. The idea for this book evolved out of nearly three decades of organizational research and consultation, and the desire to reflect on that experience with organizations. One critical lesson we learned over the years, which we discussed in the previous chapter and tried to convey throughout this book, was the value of organizational diagnosis and assessment as a reflective process for organizational change.
