Abstract

The theory and practice of organizational change presented here represents nearly thirty years of fieldwork. We provide readers with a structure, albeit a complex one, for analyzing and changing organizations; one that supports paying attention to participants’ and participant-observers’ emotional, and interpersonal, awareness and attunement. This framework is a method of organizational research and consultation. It is experientially grounded, interpretive, and action-oriented. Our approach is a form of action research, which requires participant-observation and immersion. It is an approach designed for the study of complex organizations such as government agencies and bureaucracies, businesses and corporations, universities and colleges, and hospitals and nonprofit organizations.
