Abstract

Over the next few years, both the labour market and workplaces will change quite significantly as the average age of the workforce continues to rise. Workers over 45 will play a larger role in the workplace; and current personnel policies, centred on the employment of younger workers and the early retirement of older workers, are likely to lead to massive human resource management problems. In the future, labour force participation and employment opportunities for older workers need to gain in importance if companies are to prevent labour shortages.
