Extension III: Self-managed learning and learning networks

Abstract

Every time we learn something, we are undertaking a learning activity and at the same time gaining experience of learning itself. Meta-learning is therefore always an issue. Bateson (1942), perhaps the first person to draw attention to this fact, called learning about learning ‘deuterolearning’. In this chapter, this second-order learning activity is broadened out into a final extension of peer consultation — self-managed learning.
