The Relationship between Gender and Age

Abstract

There is a considerable literature on gender and work and a burgeoning research programme on age and employment, especially in relation to older workers. Yet thus far, with a few honourable exceptions, there is very little on the relationship between gender and age. As Biggs has put it: While age and gender are experienced by an individual as intimately and possibly inextricably connected, they are, more often than not, treated separately by academics and policymakers.
