Abstract

As identified in our literature review, empirical studies on international management control have predominantly used quantitative methods to obtain data, which might have yielded to a lower level of understanding of the underlying phenomena than required. The majority of studies on the international transfer of Management Practices in general are based upon rather large-scale surveys based on questionnaires (Gamble, 2003). Quantitative research generally tests theoretical propositions with hypothesis derived from theory and relies on large sample sizes (Ongwuegbuzie, 2003). However, using standardized measures implies that varying perspectives and experiences of people fit into a limited number of predetermined response categories. Consequently, comparison and statistical aggregation of data is facilitated, leading to a generalizable set of findings, with the validity of findings being dependent on the careful construction of the instruments used (Patton, 2002).
