Abstract

In this work we focus on computer use, especially GeoGebra software, in teaching and learning mathematics, particularly, calculus. The computational resource is brought in to capitalize its potentialities in the representation of mathematical content. Our aims are to make teaching and learning mathematics more effective. The questions that we usually pose in these practices are what can a computer bring as a value in teaching and learning of mathematics? What makes mathematics teaching and learning using computational software different from traditional, regarding to the quality of the discussion in the classroom? The results obtained are encouraging: the presentation of the content in the classroom is very effective and allow us to construct appropriate conjectures about what to learn and the distorted students' thinking become clear.
