Abstract

This chapter presents a versatile formal model of entrepreneurial rivalry in segmented markets, with a focus on entrepreneurs who have established specific sets of linkages between producers and customer groups. Each special case of the general model has many parameters, each of which can be set independently of the others. These special cases afford a wide range of possibilities for modelling and solving practical economic problems. All these problems can be solved using the same techniques. A solution of a model identifies which entrepreneurs serve which customer groups by procurement from which producers. The solutions to all problems of this type can be derived using standard mathematical techniques. Two alternative techniques are set out, either of which may be used to solve the model.
