Abstract

This chapter discusses the teaching of undergraduate social psychology courses in alignment with critical theories. Short overviews of liberation psychology, disability studies, and feminist psychology are provided, followed by how to use these theories to make pedagogical decisions. These decisions include choosing a textbook and course content, setting equitable course policies and considering learning in multiple formats. Finally, each author shares a case study, highlighting an assignment associated with each of the three guiding theories. The purpose of this chapter is to help instructors consider shifts, large and small, that can be made to allow the social psychology classroom to be rooted in social change.
