Abstract

Conflict is everywhere and if managed properly could be the driver of new innovations. However, it could also grow into social conflict and if not addressed may turn into violent conflict and even civil war. This chapter begins with a discussion of human dimension in social conflict and the needs theory and examines the root causes of social conflict such as needs-based, and identity-based conflicts, globalization related conflicts and economic causes or incentives of conflict.
