Abstract

This chapter explores the relationship between science and adjudication in the context of environmental disputes. International environmental law relies on science in various ways, which can affect how international courts and tribunals handle scientific evidence during judicial procedures. This chapter therefore analyses the options international courts and tribunals have when gathering scientific evidence, as well as the options they have when weighing evidence. This helps clarify how international courts and tribunals can respond when confronted with complex scientific evidence in environmental disputes.
