Abstract

Sobre el tema de la educación todos tenemos opinión, porque todos hemos pasado por la escuela y la mayoría tenemos además hijos, sobrinos o nietos cuyo futuro nos preocupa. Más allá de ideas sugerentes y de análisis más o menos brillantes, no disponemos sin embargo sino de estudios muy parciales y bastante escasos sobre la manera cómo las madres y padres de familia viven y perciben este proceso. El presente estudio fue motivado precisamente por la necesidad de disponer de una base empírica firme que nos permita conocer mejor los valores vinculados con la escuela y la lógica que rige las tomas de decisión y en general la actuación de la familia con respecto a la escuela. El objeto de estudio fue entonces definido como "las decisiones y expectativas de las madres y padres de familia con respecto a la educación escolar de sus hijos".
