Abstract

Presentación Esta publicación es el resultado de un esfuerzo conjunto de la CEPAL y el IICA tendiente a entregar una visión global del desempeño alcanzado por el sector agropecuario de América Latina y el Caribe en el período 1990-2000, considerando al mismo tiempo los principales desafíos que habrá de encarar en el futuro. Constituye así la continuación de un trabajo similar realizado hace unos años por ambos organismos, referido en esa ocasión al período 1970 - 1995. En el presente estudio se procuró considerar la actividad agropecuaria de la región de la manera más desagregada posible, reconociendo las diversas situaciones que se presentaron en el sector no solo a causa de las distintas realidades de cada país, sino también por efecto de las diversas políticas aplicadas en el agro. De igual modo, se trató de identificar los problemas y soluciones que resultaron comunes a los países durante el período de referencia.
