Abstract

La intención con el presente libro es mostrar sinergias, conflictos y oportunidades para lograr un desarrollo sostenible, una competitividad autentica en America Latina, enfatizarido en Ia necesidad de una segunda ola de reformas. El primer capitulo presenta los conceptos detrás de los esfuerzos por lograr el desarroflo económico durante los últimos cincuenta aflos. El análisis crItico del desarrollo sostenible y Ia competitividad económica dan paso a los interrogantes sobre las sinergias y conflictos posibles entre ambos temas. El libro enfatiza la esperanza de recuperar el concepto de desarrollo humano. Si el ser humano es importante, también lo son sus instituciones y Ia cultura a Ia cual pertenece. Estas tres dimensiones (lo humano, lo institucional y lo cultural) se integran alrededor del trabajo y éste hace parte, con la tierra y el capital (flsico y financiero), de Ia función de producción tradicional. El segundo capItulo profundiza en la definición de desarrollo sostenible y Ia necesidad de entender Ia función de producción fradicional en términos de un equilibrio entre las distintas formas de capital
