Abstract

The report aims to find out the dependencies between the foreign language competence and the specialized professional competence of the students. The acquisition of certain competences is the basis of the effective practice of any profession. The role of the level of foreign language competence in the formation of the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for effective professional realization of specialists graduating from higher education has been analyzed. The primary data for the empirical study were collected through a survey method among students from the last courses of economic and medical specialties. The results show a statistically significant influence of foreign language competence on the subjective evaluations of various elements of professional competence and on the contribution of university education to professional realization. It can be concluded that directing the students' education at the university to increase their foreign language competence would have a positive effect on the increase of their professional competence and their opportunities for successful professional realization.
