Abstract

Paper purpose – The present paper aims at analyzing the internal migration phenomenon in Romania between 1990 and 2008, from quantitative perspective in order to provide a comprehensive image of the phenomenon that can represent an adequate frame for further research on the subject. Approach/method – The present paper is based on a descriptive analysis of the internal migration phenomenon in Romania in the mentioned period. This was accomplished by using different statistical methods of analysis with the aim to process the data identified in the “Statistical Yearbook of Romania” – 2008 and 2009 editions, provided by the National Institute of Statistics. Findings – The conducted analysis on the internal migration phenomenon in Romania between 1990 and 2008 revealed an oscillatory evolution of it during the analysed period and a prevailing presence of women and of persons aged between 20 and 34. Originality/value – The value of the paper consists in the descriptive analysis of the internal migration phenomenon in Romania accomplished for the 19-year period, respectively 1990-2008 and in its approach and presenting methods.
