Public service motivation, job satisfaction, and turnover intention: evidence from the Ministry of Health, Zambia

Abstract

The current study examines relationships between public service motivation, job satisfaction, and turnover intention of public employees in Zambia. We conducted a structural equation model analysis based on the survey data collected from 246 public employees in a public hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. The analysis results confirm that self-sacrifice, a dimension of PSM, is positively associated with job satisfaction, and job satisfaction is negatively related to turnover intention. However, self-sacrifice is not directly related to the turnover intention of public employees in this study.
