Abstract

Safón and Docampo (Scientometrics 2023, https://doi.org/10.1007/s11192-023-04673-x ) presented an objective, replicable methodology to identify trendy journals using a composite score derived from a definition of influence which was based on a geometric mean of a quality and a quantity proxy. Here, we show that an alternative formulation based on a quadratic emphasis on quality can lead to very different results.
