Alliances need autonomy

Abstract

This short paper considers Mariotti’s persuasive case for a new alliance between economics and engineering. The case rests on four main axioms, and we discuss why these are so important. Then, we explain why the alliance needs sufficient autonomy from its parent disciplines to succeed.
