Abstract

In the late 1980s - early 1990s, China faced a number of internal and external political and economic challenges. Deepening of structural macroeconomic and regional imbalances and inflation took place against the backdrop of growing domestic political struggle between the conservative-minded party members and supporters to continue reforms. Imposed after the Tiananmen Square massacre of trade and economic sanctions against China by Western countries mainly affected the sphere of military and technical cooperation, had a negative impact on the volume of imports. The answer to the unstable economic and political and social conditions has been an acceleration of reforms and the adoption of large-scale measures to liberalize foreign trade, export promotion and macroeconomic stabilization. These reforms have largely determined the leading position of China in the global markets in the coming decades.
