Estimación de la Ley de Okun: evidencia empírica para Ecuador, América Latina y el Mundo

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar el efecto de la producción en la tasa de desempleo de Ecuador, América Latina y el mundo utilizando datos de series de tiempo para el periodo 1991-2014. Los resultados encontrados muestran que los datos de Ecuador no se ajustan al modelo de Okun (1952). Sin embargo, la relación si se cumple con los datos del mundo y de América Latina, aunque los coeficientes son estadísticamente no significativos. Estos resultados sugieren que la curva de Okun (1952) no tiene mayor respaldo en los datos, sino que fue el resultado de una particularidad de algunos países desarrollados. En el caso ecuatoriano existen otras variables como el gasto público y los impuestos que de manera conjunta explican de mejor manera al desempleo.
