Abstract

Even if the experiences in the world of social currencies occupy recently the front of the economic scene, these new forms of exchanges join a long historic filiation of experiences with monetary character considered as utopian and/or socialist. Nevertheless, by using from the XIXth century a social currency (credit with no interest) as instrument of reform of the monetary system, Proudhon seems to have posed the theoretical bases to explain the existence of the current social currencies.
