Abstract

(In recent years, the number of atypical employment relationships (market-based employment systems) has increased in the German labor market at the same time as the number of regular employment relationships (closed employment systems) has declined. Freelancing, the prototypical market-based employment form, has particularly grown in importance. Even though different organizational employment systems are likely to affect work satisfaction, to date little research has been conducted in this area. The paper seeks to fill this research gap by analyzing whether freelancers and regular employees of different income classes show different types of job satisfaction in terms of the Zurich Model. The results show that the difference between high and low income jobs is especially relevant for job satisfaction in market-based systems.)
