Abstract

[eng] A wide approach of the irreversibility effect : an application on the conservation of biodiversity. . A decision takes on the characteristics of irreversibility to the extent that it shrinks the space of available options. The irreversibility effect presented by Henry [1974] and further studied by Freixas-Laffont [1982], introduced the concept of " option value ", denoting the opportunity cost that could be imputed to an irreversible decision on account of the consequent shrinkage of options. The objectives of this paper is to provide a generalization of the irreversibility effect by incorporating uncertainty given by nature as well as uncertainty particular to each decision, permitting creation of new states. Thus this paper is organized as follows : firstly two propositions are presented in wich we modify the basic conditions of the irreversibility effect ; then, these propositions are illustrated with an example of the conservation of biodiversity. Une décision irréversible correspond à une perte de flexibilité décisionnelle dans les périodes futures. L'effet irréversibilité, présenté par Henry [1974] et défini dans un contexte informationnel plus large par Freixas et Laffont [1982], introduit le concept de valeur d'option qui s'apparente à un coût d'opportunité particulier devant être imputé à la décision irréversible en raison de la perte d'options futures. L'objectif de cet article est de trouver des extensions de l'effet irréversibilité, en incorporant une incertitude aussi bien fonction des décisions que des états de la nature ; rien n'interdit, en effet, que la décision irréversible ne crée de nouvelles options qui n'existaient pas auparavant. Nous allons donc montrer, à partir de deux propositions, comment sont modifiées les conditions à la base de l'effet irréversibilité ; ces propositions sont illustrées sur un exemple relatif à la conservation de la biodiversité.
