Abstract

[eng] Economics, history and the birth of polthcal economy Quesnay, Turgot et Condorcet, Say, Sismondi. . The conflicting relationships between historical sciences and political economy burst open as soon as the surge of the former at the beginning of the XVIIIth century raised the question of the foundations (and legitimacy) of the new emerging social prder, capitalism. A first current attempted to build a social order on a- or trans- historical " natural " principles, leading into an determinist and static economic worldview, where reformism is the pillar of conservatism. The second, looking ahead, is concemed with change : it is dynamic, probabilist, utopian and even revolutionary. This paper studies this dialectic at work among the French economists from the collapse of the Ancien Regime to the consolidation of the new social order, the natural conservatism ot the Physiocrates and Say opposing the fluidity and openness of historical change of Turgot, Condorcet and Sismondi.
