Abstract

[eng] The possibility of a decentralized economy. An alternative to the general equilibrium framework. . This article defends the view that the tatonnement assumption still plays a central role in general equilibrium theory, conceived as aiming at answering the question of the conditions of possibility of a decentralized economy. Adopting it, however, amounts to dodging the problem of coordinating private decisions. What is alleged to be a decentralized economy turns out to be a particular sort of planified System. The article examines the consequences of taking a completely different starting point, the « separation assumption », and compares the new approach resting on this assumption to general equilibrium theory. This comparison runs through the following themes : equilibrium, money, time, coordination, the labour market.
