Abstract

[eng] Short-run nominal wage increases,. tensions on the labour market and variations. of the prices and of the minimum wage. . The purpose of this paper is to examine, for different categories of labour (sex and skill) the validity and the stability over time of a short-run Phillips relation for France. Quarterly data of hourly wage rates are studied over the period 1957-1973.. The research of the best expression of the tension of the labour market led up to a new formulation of the excess demand for labour. Then, the model gives a rather satisfactoty explanation of wages increases by means of this excess demand variable, and the rates of change of consumer prices and minimum wage. Nevertheless, the relation appears as very unstable, especially when comparing the ante-1968 to the post-1968 period; this unstability mainly bears upon the constant term of the relation, but also upon the short-run wages/prices elasticities.
