Abstract

[eng] A powerful industrial logic links the activities of groups - Our knowledge of industrial groups is getting better. The survey of 1979 on the financial links among firms allows us to go from a monograph approach to the subject — this is the usual approach — to a statistical understanding of the matter. Above and beyond the simple description of groups, is it possible to arrive at certain laws governing their formation of their economic behaviour? One characteristic of groups is their diversification into many economic activities. This can be better obtained by breaking down into separate production chains the different production sectors, something the INSEE has just finished doing. It appears evident that the physionomy of a group is strongly influenced by the technical links that bond it to the activities it carrysout. This industrial logic appears to be the overall means of operating for groups.
