Recent Evidence on Health and Employment Status for Indigenous Australia

Abstract

This paper uses the 2002 NATSISS data to examine the linkages between employment and health status. Two measures of health status are used—self-assessed health and the presence of a long-term disability. Employment is modelled to exclude and then include CDEP employment. The results, which are fairly robust to the treatment of CDEP employment, indicate that both self-assessed health status and long-term disabilities have significant impacts on a person’s likelihood of being in employment.
