The Future of Land Grant Universities and Agricultural Economists

Abstract

Land grant university colleges of agriculture and agricultural economists must address societal concerns through research, extension, and teaching programs. Clearly, articulating our contributions to societal issues is necessary to merit continued public funding. Goals need to be specified, individual incentives aligned with them, and innovative leadership provided to implement strategies. Agricultural economists must effectively communicate theirwork to decision-makers, expand their interaction with a broader network, and serve the public versus the private interests.
