Abstract

All commercial occupations have common roots, a kind of “family history,” with a trend towards greater differentiation, to which little attention had been paid by occupational research in recent decades. The paper discusses the development and current situation of commonalities and differences between commercial and business management occupations, to identify the main characteristics and qualifications of the various groups of commercial occupations. In conclusion a number of theses are presented for debate regarding future requirements for commercial employees.
