America and the Crossroads of Capitalist Globalization

Abstract

We are at a stage in the march of global capitalism at which the United States must learn to cooperate with Confucian and Muslim economic models. There are contradictions in capitalist growth—not least inequality, ongoing poverty, and environmental degradation—that will require global solutions. Most important, the author shows, the United States should realize that China and the Middle East have long traditions of capitalist growth and are decidedly open to their own versions of capitalism today.
