Abstract

Az 1999-es közgazdasági Nobel-díj az előző évekhez hasonlóan ismét élénk vitát kavart. Az egyetértők népes tábora lelkesen üdvözölte a döntést, hiszen Robert Mundell személyében olyan közgazdász jutott a különleges nemzetközi elismeréshez, akinek elméleti tevékenysége a legizgalmasabb és napjaink legaktuálisabb gyakorlati kérdéseihez kapcsolódik. Mások viszont úgy érezték, hogy a gesztus egy, az idők folyamán igencsak beporosodott elméleti tevékenységnek szólt. Tény, hogy a kitüntetés Robert Mundellnek a csaknem négy évtizeddel ezelőtti tudományos tevékenységét honorálta. Bár a New York-i Columbia Egyetem professzora változatlanul igen aktív, nemzetközi hírnevét a hatvanas évek elején kidolgozott elméleteivel alapozta meg.
