Abstract

This paper aims to identify the level of digital transformation of industries, based on their degree of Industry 4.0 maturity and whether they contribute to the country's innovative environment or need to be boosted to reach a degree of expected maturity. The selected methodology was applied research, with an exploratory/descriptive, quantitative, and survey, using an online questionnaire. The maturity assessment used to analyse the industries was Acatech Industry 4.0 maturity index. The survey was applied with five industries located in Pernambuco/Brazil. The overall Industry 4.0 maturity of the studied companies was calculated as 2.49, which is still in the digitisation phase, below the minimum value to be considered mature/maturing in the scope of Industry 4.0. Besides, the studies reveal that it is important to prioritise investments in principles of Industry 4.0 and to create an innovation area in the industries that there are not yet.
