Innovation system of a metropolitan region: a case study of the Yangtze River Delta

Abstract

Based on theories of national and regional innovation systems, this paper discusses the relationship between the regional innovation system and administrative districts in China, then defines the concept of the innovation system of a metropolitan region (megalopolis), analyses the basis for the formation of the Yangtze River Delta Innovation System, depicts its structure and collaboration model, and, in conclusion, presents the strategic aim to build an Innovation System for the Yangtze River Delta and the corresponding institutional framework.
