A cognitive model of web design for e-learning

Abstract

The traditional methods of designing web page/site for teaching Information Technology (IT) fail to concentrate on integration of various modes of learning within the stages of the technological process. Most of tutorial websites or web-based instructional environment, fail to adapt human cognitive progress. The nature of complex human cognitive models in web-based instructions is not clearly discussed in literature, especially in the area of teaching information technology. This paper presents a conceptual framework of designing a web-based instructional model that facilitates critical thinking and cognitive progress. This framework provides a set of criteria, assumptions, goals, the structure and issues for the implementation. It is based on a constructive vision of multi-method learning, focusing on the interactive and individualised teaching-learning process.
