Estudio de la calidad de vida en Bolivia: Metodología y medición

Abstract

En este documento se presenta la metodología con la que se elaboró un Indicador de Calidad de Vida (ICV) de hogares en el país. La metodología se basa en la descomposición por componentes principales para variables cualitativas. La descripción de la metodología permite lograr una mayor comprensión de los alcances y limitaciones de los resultados obtenidos. Previamente se explica la construcción de la base de datos que contendrá la información empleada. El indicador obtenido puede ser elaborado con periodicidad anual, y tiene información de las características del hogar y del entorno que lo rodea (vecindario/área geográfica/departamento). Este indicador contiene información sobre la calidad de vida de los hogares, a diferencia de otros indicadores que sólo incluyen información sobre las condiciones de vida. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la calidad de vida en el departamento de Santa Cruz es la más alta del país, tanto en el área urbana como en el área rural. Contrariamente, Potosí es el departamento con menor calidad de vida en el país. Observando los resultados extremos, a nivel urbano existe un grupo de departamentos en los que la calidad de vida es elevada respecto al promedio nacional, siendo estos Santa Cruz, La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca y Tarija, en orden descendente. Por el contrario, en el área rural del país, el grupo de departamentos con menor calidad de vida está compuesto por Chuquisaca, Beni, Oruro, Potosí y Pando, en orden descendente.
