Abstract

The Danish ministry of the interior and health has recently announced that information about productivity at all levels of the Danish health sector should be made available to the public. The present study uses stochastic frontier analyses to estimate productivity for Danish hospitals over the period 2003-04 and to draw inferences about uncertainty by calculating 95% confidence intervals. The results show that productivity estimates should be interpreted with caution and argues for the importance of communicating uncertainty measures to the decision makers.
