Abstract

This paper deals with autonomous wind energy applications. There are substantial power production fluctuations due to variation in wind speed and these can be smoothed out by using batteries as a storage device. This paper describes a computer model which investigates the feasibility of using a wind/diesel system to provide electricity for an isolated village near Tangiers using Tangiers' wind regime. The paper quantifies the optimum wind turbine size and the benefits of a storage system on fuel saving.
