Abstract

The current practice of urban planning does not pay proper attention to the quality of urban soils, to their multiple functions and to the supply of ecosystem services to the urban population. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to raising awareness about the role of soil in the built-up environment, to provide tools to assess and map urban soils ecosystem services and to highlight the possibility of integrating soil knowledge into urban planning.
