Maintaining water service quality in the face of climate change: Can stated-preference analysis support priority setting?

Abstract

•Stated-preference methods offer an implementable way of involving stakeholders in water management decisions.•We estimate a latent class model, enabling us to profile different types of respondents.•WTP is higher for environmental improvements, and lower or negative for improved resilience.•Respondents are polarised between those willing to pay for improvements and those who prefer to stay as they are.•Responses contradict regulatory priorities and reveal an unexpected tolerance towards supply restrictions.
