Scarcity of mineral resources and governance and development of renewable energy projects in China

Abstract

For manufacturing renewable energy equipment, lots of material is needed, including mineral resources. The scarcity of mineral resources is one of the challenges to developing renewable energy projects. This study used the data from the most polluting Chinese provinces by employing a panel Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model to examine the factors influencing the development of wind power projects in China by considering the scarcity of mineral resources. The study found that financial policies, the abundant essential mineral resources, and regional economic growth are prerequisites for developing wind power projects.
